Turkish football giants Besiktas have officially confirmed that they have initiated negotiations to sign English striker Tammy Abraham from Serie A club AS Roma. The move is expected to be a significant one, with reports indicating it will be a loan deal with an obligation to buy.
In a statement released by the Istanbul club, using his full name, Besiktas declared: “Negotiations have begun with the player and his club AS Roma regarding the transfer of professional football player Kevin Oghenetega Tamaraebi Bakumo-Abraham.”
The 27-year-old forward currently has one year remaining on his contract with the Italian side, which is set to expire on June 30, 2027. Italian media outlets have widely reported that the discussions center around an initial loan agreement, which would then convert into a permanent transfer for a fee reportedly around €15 million (including add-ons). Abraham is also expected to sign a four-year contract with Besiktas, worth approximately €4 million per season.
Abraham himself fueled excitement among Besiktas fans by appearing in a video posted on the club’s Instagram account, aboard their private plane, stating: “Hello Black Eagles, I’m coming for you, see you at the airport.” He was anticipated to arrive in Turkey’s largest city later on Tuesday.
Tammy Abraham joined AS Roma in August 2021 from Premier League club Chelsea in a deal worth €41 million (£35 million). He quickly became an integral part of the team, playing a crucial role in their triumph in the 2022 Europa Conference League.
The former England international recently concluded a season-long loan spell with Roma’s Serie A rivals, AC Milan, during the 2024/25 season, where he netted 10 goals across all competitions. His return to Italy after the loan spell was brief, as he now looks set to embark on a new chapter in his career in Turkey under former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who is now at the helm of Besiktas.
