Following the long-term injury to young defender Levi Colwill, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed the club’s intention to enter the transfer market for a new centre-back.
Colwill, 22, reportedly tore his ACL just days into pre-season training, an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined for the majority of the 2025-26 campaign.
Despite Maresca having several defensive options, including Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Josh Acheampong, the manager has made it clear that reinforcements are a priority.
Speaking after the team’s 2-0 pre-season victory over Bayer Leverkusen, Maresca stated: “It’s a priority for me to get a new centre back. We will see if we go for it.”
The news comes as Chelsea prepare for the start of their Premier League season, which kicks off against Crystal Palace on Sunday, August 17th.
