French international defender Clément Lenglet has officially sealed a permanent move to Atlético Madrid, committing his future to the club until 2028. This comes after his contract with FC Barcelona was terminated, paving the way for him to fully join Los Rojiblancos.

The 28-year-old centre-back spent the recently concluded 2023-2024 season on loan with Atlético, where he truly found his stride. His consistent and impressive performances at the heart of the defense clearly won over the coaching staff and fans alike, leading to this long-term commitment for the next three seasons.

Atlético Madrid wasted no time confirming the signing, stating in an official release: “Clément Lenglet and Atlético de Madrid have reached an agreement for the signing of the French international until 2028. The centre-back, who was on loan at our club this season, will remain with us for the next three seasons.”

Lenglet’s journey in professional football began in France with AS Nancy, where he debuted in 2013 and played a key role in their promotion to Ligue 1 in the 2015-2016 season. His talent quickly caught the eye of Spanish clubs, leading to a move to Sevilla in 2017, where he swiftly established himself as a regular starter.

His stellar displays in Seville earned him a dream move to FC Barcelona in 2018. During his time at Camp Nou, Lenglet featured in 160 games, scoring seven goals and contributing to some significant triumphs, including La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de España.

After subsequent loan spells at Tottenham Hotspur (2022/2023) and Aston Villa (2023/2024), it appears Lenglet has found his perfect fit at Atlético. His loan stint saw him feature in 34 matches, surprisingly chipping in with three goals and two assists from defense. More importantly, his strong form at the club level earned him a well-deserved recall to the French national team for their recent UEFA Nations League matches.

This permanent transfer marks an exciting new chapter for Lenglet and a solid defensive reinforcement for Atlético Madrid as they look to build on their squad for future campaigns. It’s a clear win-win for both player and club!
