Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez has officially completed a transfer from Premier League champions Liverpool to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal on a three-year contract. The move, confirmed by both clubs on Saturday, marks a significant signing for the Saudi Pro League.
While financial terms were not officially disclosed, reports from British media indicate that the transfer fee was around $62 million (£46.3 million), with potential add-ons. Nunez, who joined Liverpool in June 2022 from Benfica for an initial €75 million, had a mixed time at the English club, scoring 40 goals and providing 26 assists in 143 appearances. His role in the team diminished last season, where he started only eight league matches.
Nunez’s departure will contribute to financing Liverpool’s substantial summer spending, which has included the acquisitions of German playmaker Florian Wirtz for a reported £116 million and French forward Hugo Ekitike for £69 million.
Al Hilal, managed by former Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi, has been active in the transfer market, with Nunez joining other high-profile signings like Theo Hernandez from AC Milan. The club is currently at a pre-season training camp in Germany and is aiming to secure a record-extending 20th league title this season
