Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has addressed growing concerns about the size of the Chelsea squad under his management. With reports suggesting that the Blues are struggling to manage a bloated roster of 42 players, Maresca offered a calm and straightforward response to the situation.

“I am not working with 42 players. I am working with 21 players,” Maresca stated, setting the record straight. He emphasized that the 21 players he regularly works with form the core of his team, and they are the ones who will be crucial in Chelsea’s campaign. As for the others, Maresca explained that they are kept separate from the main group. “The other 15-20 players are training apart. I don’t see them. It’s not a mess like it looks from outside. Absolutely not.”

This statement reflects Maresca’s strategic focus on keeping his squad manageable and cohesive, ensuring that he can give his full attention to those who are likely to make an impact on the pitch. By training a smaller group, Maresca can maintain high standards and ensure that every player knows their role within the team.

Addressing the issue of players with long-term contracts who are not in his immediate plans, Maresca was blunt: “They can even have 20-year contracts, it’s not my point. I don’t care.” This remark underscores his focus on the present and on the players who are actively contributing to Chelsea’s objectives, rather than being concerned with the contractual status of those on the periphery.

Maresca’s approach suggests that he is not only aware of the challenges but is also confident in his ability to manage them effectively. His comments provide reassurance that, despite external perceptions, Chelsea’s squad is far from chaotic and that the team remains well-prepared for the season ahead.
