Katsina PDP Chieftains Vow to Join New Opposition Coalition Against APC for 2027
Prominent figures within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State have declared their intention to join forces with a burgeoning coalition of opposition parties, aiming to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Led by Dr. Mustapha Inuwa, a former Secretary to the Katsina State Government, the group announced their plans during a stakeholders’ meeting held recently in Katsina. The move signals a potential realignment within the state’s political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.
Addressing the gathered stakeholders, Dr. Inuwa confirmed that discussions are already well underway to forge a formidable coalition capable of unseating the APC at both the state and federal levels.
“We have commenced discussions with members of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) and even prominent APC members to form a coalition for the 2027 election,” Inuwa stated.
He further hinted at significant underlying discontent within the ruling party, adding, “It may shock you to know that some of the APC members who are supporting this movement are holding key positions in the APC government at state and federal governments.”
While Dr. Inuwa did not explicitly name the specific coalition they intend to join, reliable party sources indicated to THISDAY that arrangements have been finalized for the group to align with the new political structure reportedly being championed by the PDP’s 2023 presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Inuwa assured stakeholders that the opposition movement, which includes influential politicians from Katsina and beyond, would soon agree on a single political platform to contest the 2027 elections.
The meeting drew notable PDP figures, underscoring the significance of the planned move. Attendees included Senator Umar Ibrahim Tsauri, a former National Secretary of the PDP; Senator Ahmed Babba Kaita, who previously represented Katsina North (Daura Zone); and Ahmed Musa Yaradua, among other party stalwarts.
This development suggests a determined effort by these Katsina PDP leaders to consolidate opposition forces in preparation for a significant political battle against the incumbent APC government in 2027.
