Former Big Brother Naija housemate Leo DaSilva has weighed in on the issue of land sales in Yoruba communities, criticizing elders for their greed in selling family land to Igbo people. His comments were a direct reaction to social commentator Scott Iguma’s remarks on corruption within the real estate sector.
Iguma had argued that Yoruba elders willingly sell land to outsiders instead of using it for community benefit. He pointed out that Igbo people are not stealing the land but are legally purchasing it, and that the proceeds from these sales are often spent on luxury items rather than on improving local living conditions.
Reacting to this, Leo DaSilva took to Twitter to express his frustration, stating that the greed of Yoruba elders and internal family disputes have made the community a subject of ridicule.
“lol this narrative of Yoruba elders selling family land to our Igbo people, that’s where I will always blame us Yoruba people,” DaSilva wrote. “Everyone is now using it to make fun of us. Your parents that are greedy and fighting their siblings for property they didn’t work for, caused this.”
DaSilva’s comments emphasize that, in his view, the issue is not with the buyers but with the sellers and the internal conflicts that make such transactions possible.
