Senegal struck first through a header from Joseph Layousse in the 16th minute, but Morocco responded swiftly just seven minutes later. Sabir Bougrine scored with a powerful long-range strike that leveled the score at 1-1. With neither side able to find a winner in normal or extra time, the match went to penalties.
