Manchester United has finalized a deal to sign goalkeeper Senne Lammens from Royal Antwerp for a reported fee of £18.2 million. The 23-year-old Belgian arrived in the UK and is headed to the Carrington training complex to undergo his medical, a final step before completing his move to Old Trafford. Lammens has reportedly agreed to a five-year contract with the club.
The decision to sign Lammens comes after United considered several options, including Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez. After careful deliberation, the club decided that Lammens was the right choice for their future plans. He is expected to be integrated into a four-man goalkeeping group, joining the ranks alongside Altay Bayindir, Andre Onana, and Tom Heaton. This move indicates United’s commitment to strengthening their goalkeeping department for the long term.
Despite the recent signings, the transfer windows in Turkey and Saudi Arabia remain open, creating the possibility of further movements. It is understood that if a suitable offer were to come in for any of their other goalkeepers, it would be seriously considered. This could potentially see one of the current keepers depart before the close of those windows on September 11 and 10, respectively.
Lammens’ arrival marks the fifth summer signing for Manchester United under head coach Ruben Amorim, bringing the club’s total summer spending to a substantial £232 million. He follows the arrivals of Benjamin Sesko, Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Diego Leon. Lammens was signed by Antwerp just two years ago from Club Brugge, and his sale represents a significant profit for the Belgian club. Last season, he made 30 appearances in the Belgian Pro League and kept seven clean sheets, demonstrating his potential to become a key player for Manchester United.
