Chukwu led the Nigerian national team to their first-ever Africa Cup of Nations victory in 1980, a historic moment for the nation. He was also a key member of the squads that secured third place in the 1976 and 1978 AFCON tournaments.
At the club level, Chukwu was synonymous with Enugu Rangers, where he spent his entire Nigerian Professional Football League career from 1972 to 1981. His time with the Flying Antelopes was marked by remarkable success, including four league titles, four FA Cup titles, and the 1977 African Cup Winners� Cup, where Rangers triumphed over Cameroon�s Canon Yaounde.
Following his illustrious playing career, Chukwu transitioned into coaching. He served as the head coach of the Kenyan national team in 1998 before returning to Nigeria.
