Portugal kicked off their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign with a commanding 5-0 victory over Armenia in Yerevan, extending their unbeaten streak against the opposition to seven matches.
Carrying the momentum from their recent UEFA Nations League title, Portugal wasted no time. Joao Felix broke the deadlock in under ten minutes with a header from Joao Cancelo’s cross. The legendary Cristiano Ronaldo then added to his international goal tally, poking home a ball from Pedro Neto. Cancelo, who assisted the opener, got on the scoresheet himself with a powerful strike just after the half-hour mark.
The second half began just as the first ended, with Portugal in control. Ronaldo scored his second of the night with a fierce 30-yard drive. Felix then secured his brace, volleying the ball past the goalkeeper. Armenia’s chances were few and far between, with a low drive from Tigran Barseghyan being their best effort.
The victory sees Portugal move to the top of Group F. With their impressive form, they are well on their way to securing a spot in the World Cup.
