Roma continued their impressive start to the Serie A season with a narrow 1-0 victory over newly-promoted Pisa at the Arena Garibaldi. The win, their second in as many games, means Gian Piero Gasperini’s side has now lost just one of their last 24 league outings.

Despite Roma dominating possession for most of the match, it was Pisa who looked more dangerous early on, with Henrik Meister testing Roma keeper Mile Svilar. However, the home side failed to capitalize on their early chances.

The deadlock was broken before the hour mark by Matias Soule, who finished a well-worked passing move from the visitors. Soule thought he had scored a second goal soon after, but it was ruled out for a handball in the build-up.

Pisa tried to find an equalizer, with Michael Aebischer firing a couple of shots towards the goal, but Roma’s defense held firm. The visitors comfortably saw out the rest of the match to secure all three points.

With six points from a possible six, Gasperini can be pleased with his team’s start to the season. Pisa, on the other hand, can be encouraged by their performance against a top side and will look to get their first points on the board after the international break.
