Former Manchester United forward Wayne Rooney has lauded the performance of Marcus Rashford following Aston Villa’s impressive 3-2 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final clash on Tuesday night at Villa Park.

Despite Aston Villa’s spirited comeback from a 2-0 deficit to secure a memorable win against the French Ligue 1 champions, their efforts were ultimately in vain as they succumbed to a 5-4 aggregate defeat, having lost the first leg 3-1 in Paris. PSG now progresses to the semi-finals of the prestigious competition, where they will face either Arsenal or Real Madrid.

Rooney, who was providing analysis on Amazon Prime, was particularly impressed with Rashford’s contribution to Villa’s fightback. He highlighted the England international’s pivotal role in the match, praising his overall impact and quality.

“They were on the front foot; PSG seemed rattled, and Villa pressed forward confidently,” Rooney commented during his analysis. “I want to highlight Marcus Rashfords performancehe displayed the quality we know he possesses.”

Rooney specifically pointed out Rashford’s ability to take on defenders, his driving runs, and his awareness in creating goal-scoring opportunities for Aston Villa. “When that goal went in, you could truly feel the shift in the atmosphere, giving Villa players the belief that they could turn the tie around,” he noted, emphasizing the significance of Rashford’s contribution to the team’s momentum.

Looking ahead, Rooney expressed his hope that Rashford, who is currently on loan at Aston Villa, will carry this impressive form back to Manchester United when he returns to Old Trafford at the end of the current season. “I look forward to seeing him perform at that level when he returns,” Rooney stated, suggesting that the performance against PSG showcased the qualities Manchester United will be hoping to see from the forward upon his return.
