The Super Eagles have officially begun their preparations for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches, with Captain William Troost-Ekong, Bruno Onyemaechi, and goalkeeper Amas Obasogie being the first players to arrive in camp on Monday. The trio checked into the Four Points by Sheraton hotel in Uyo as the team, invited by head coach Eric Chelle, started to assemble ahead of a crucial set of fixtures.

More members of the 23-man squad are expected to join their teammates throughout the day. The Super Eagles are scheduled to hold their first official training session on Tuesday at the practice pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, signalling the start of their focused preparation.

The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) also confirmed the travel plans of their first opponents, Rwanda. “A one-man advance party will be in Lagos on Monday, but the full delegation will make landfall in Lagos on Tuesday aboard a Rwanda Airlines flight at 1.15 pm, and will proceed to Uyo, capital of Akwa Ibom State, by 4 pm of the same day,” the NFF stated.

The Super Eagles’ upcoming matches are of high importance, as they currently sit fourth in a competitive Group H with seven points. South Africa leads the group with 13 points, pending a ruling from FIFA. They are followed by Rwanda and the Benin Republic, both tied on eight points. Zimbabwe and Lesotho are at the bottom with four and six points respectively. The Super Eagles will face Rwanda at home before travelling to Bloemfontein to confront group leaders South Africa. Following these, they have additional World Cup qualifiers in October against Lesotho away and the Benin Republic at home.
