The Nigeria Super Falcons have maintained their position as the highest-ranked women’s national team in Africa, according to the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking released after the July-August 2025 international window. The team sits at 36th globally and remains far ahead of its continental rivals.

The Super Falcons saw a modest gain of 7.54 points, with their total rising from 1623.29 to 1630.83. The updated ranking reflects the results of 196 international matches, including games played during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), UEFA Women’s Euro 2025, and various World Cup qualifying rounds.

Continental Performance

South Africa’s Banyana Banyana, despite a poor run at the WAFCON knockout stage that led to a loss of 22.92 points, held on to the 54th global spot and remain second in Africa.

Morocco, the WAFCON finalists, saw a slight drop from 63rd to 64th place and shed 12.42 points despite playing the most matches during the ranking period with eight games. Zambia, who had a mixed tournament run, held firm at 65th globally, gaining a minimal 6.93 points despite a significant 5-0 quarter-final loss to Nigeria.

Ghana, the third-place finishers at WAFCON, saw a marginal drop to 67th. Teams that did not participate in official matches during this period, such as Cameroon and Ivory Coast, also saw drops in their rankings.

Notable Movers

Some teams recorded impressive gains in the latest ranking. Botswana was the biggest mover in Africa, climbing seven spots to 146th globally after gaining 32.15 points. Their competitive performances at WAFCON against Algeria, Nigeria, and Tunisia were key to this surge.

Algeria and Senegal also made notable improvements, gaining 14.79 and 12.6 points, respectively. They now round out Africa’s top 10 alongside Mali.

Global Standings

On the global stage, Spain has reclaimed the No. 1 spot in the world after reaching the UEFA Women’s Euro 2025 final, overtaking the United States. Brazil fell to seventh place despite defending their South American title. The most dramatic rise worldwide came from Bangladesh, who climbed 24 places after qualifying for the final round of the AFC qualifiers for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.

The next FIFA Women’s World Ranking will be released on December 11, 2025.
