President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has further cemented his administration’s commitment to strengthening the governance of federal tertiary institutions across Nigeria, announcing additional appointments to the governing councils of various universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education. This latest round of appointments, disclosed on Wednesday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, comes hot on the heels of similar appointments made just hours prior for the University of Abuja, University of Nigeria, Nsukka, and Nnamdi Azikiwe University.

The new appointees, who are expected to bring diverse experience to their respective institutions, are drawn from various states across the federation. The appointments are effective immediately.

Among the notable additions to university councils are:

Hon. Chidi Nwogu (Imo State) for African Aviation and Aerospace University, Abuja
Dr. Folashade Mulikat Kareem (Kwara State) for the University of Jos, Plateau State
Dipe Olusina Adeniyi (Lagos State) for Federal University of Technology, Ikot-Abasi, Akwa-Ibom State
Akanimo Umoh (Akwa Ibom State) for Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State
Mr. Babatunde Usman Jinadu (Lagos State) for Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi State
For polytechnics, some of the new council members include:

Hon. Shehu Kagara (Kaduna State) for Federal Polytechnic Isuochi, Umunnoechi, Abia State
Dr. Francis Ogbise (Bayelsa State) for Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra State
Hon. Almajiri Geidam (Yobe State) for Federal Polytechnic Munguno, Borno State
Rahila Ilegbodu (Taraba State) for Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Delta State
And for colleges of education, new appointees include:

Ibrahim Abba Geidam (Yobe State) for Federal College of Education, Gwoza, Borno State
Mohammed Nura (Kebbi State) for Federal College of Education, Pankshin, Plateau State
Hon. Abdulkadir Usman Global (Kaduna State) for Federal College of Education (Technical), Isu, Ebonyi State
The comprehensive list of appointees spans institutions across numerous states, indicating a broad effort to fill critical leadership roles within the nation’s higher education sector. These appointments are seen as a move by the Presidency to bolster the administrative and strategic direction of federal tertiary institutions, crucial for fostering academic excellence and development.
