Liverpool striker Diogo Jota, 28, and his brother André, 26, have tragically died after being involved in a car accident near the municipality of Palacios de Sanabria, Spain, according to local reports.
The devastating incident occurred last night on the A-52 motorway. The vehicle carrying the Jota brothers reportedly veered off the road and caught fire following a collision. Witnesses who called emergency services via 112 described the car as being completely engulfed in flames.
Diogo Jota, who had just married on June 28th, joined Liverpool in 2020 after a successful spell with fellow Premier League club Wolves. He was a key part of the squad that secured the Premier League title last season.
The Portuguese international began his career in Spain with Atletico Madrid, which included a loan stint at Porto, before moving to Wolves and helping them achieve promotion from the Championship. Jota represented Portugal 49 times, scoring 14 goals for his country.
