The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Dr. Nyesom Wike, has declared his intention to ensure that President Bola Tinubu’s opponents develop “high blood pressure,” asserting that they are displeased with the President’s performance since he assumed office in 2023.
Wike made these provocative remarks on Wednesday during the commissioning of the Arterial Road N16 (Shehu Shagari Way) and other infrastructure projects in Abuja, an event attended by President Tinubu.
Recounting a moment of “spiritual” insight while watching television, Wike claimed he realized the “pain” felt by Tinubu’s detractors. He then vowed to continue delivering impactful projects that would further distress the President’s critics.
“Sometimes, I don’t know, spiritually I was touched. I was just touched to turn it (TV) on, and I was watching, and I didn’t realise that people could be in pain, but now I know that such people are in pain,” Wike stated. “I now must make sure I continue to give them high blood pressure. As they continue to be in pain, it’ll be sweetening us, and that’s now my job.”
He added, “I’ll be happy, moving around, and laughing every time, and they’ll be there shouting, fighting, and killing themselves. So, Mr President, thank you for being part of this revolution.”
The Minister’s announcement was made as part of a briefing to mark the 2025 African Public Service Day and Civil Service Week, where he also reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to transitioning the Nigerian Civil Service to a completely paperless system by December 2025. This initiative aligns with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021–2025.
