The future of Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid is increasingly uncertain, and Xabi Alonso has a clause in his contract that allows him to leave Bayer Leverkusen for any of his former clubs, including Real Madrid.

Ancelotti’s position at Real Madrid is reportedly not secure, with his chances of staying heavily dependent on winning both the Liga and Copa del Rey in the remaining weeks of the season. His recent comments about his future suggest a shift in his confidence, as he acknowledged that decisions about his job would be made at the end of the season.

Bayer Leverkusen’s CEO, Fernando Carro, has confirmed that Alonso’s contract includes a clause that permits him to leave for Real Sociedad, Liverpool, Bayern Munich, or Real Madrid. Leverkusen has given Alonso until May 17th to decide, according to reports. If Alonso chooses to leave, Real Madrid would have to pay a 12 million compensation fee.

This development contrasts with statements from Leverkusen’s Sporting Director, Simon Rolfes, a few months ago, who indicated Alonso’s commitment to the club. It has also been reported that Real Madrid previously asked Alonso to delay a public announcement about his future.

Real Madrid’s La Liga season is set to conclude around May 24th or 25th, followed by approximately three and a half weeks of preparation for the Club World Cup in the United States.
