Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara announced a resolution to the protracted political crisis with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, in a statewide broadcast on Friday. The governor described the truce as a significant step towards achieving lasting peace and stability in the state.

According to Fubara, the six-month state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu provided the necessary platform for reconciliation among all stakeholders. “Our Leader, His Excellency, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, CON, all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly and I, as your Governor, have all accepted to bury the hatchet and embrace peace and reconciliation in the best interest of our dear Rivers State,” he stated.

President Tinubu had declared a state of emergency on March 18, 2025, suspending the governor, his deputy, and the state’s legislative body to address a constitutional crisis that had paralyzed governance. On Wednesday, September 17, 2025, the President lifted the emergency rule and ordered all parties to resume their constitutional duties immediately.

The reconciliation is expected to end months of political tension and allow the government to focus on development. Fubara assured the people of Rivers State that his administration would now prioritize peace, unity, and progress.
