Nigeria’s Super Eagles have made a slight upward movement in the latest FIFA World Ranking for national teams, climbing one position to 43rd in the world, according to the update released today, April 3rd.

The improvement in ranking comes after the Super Eagles’ performance during the March international break, where they participated in two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. The team secured a 2-0 victory away against Rwanda, with star striker Victor Osimhen bagging both goals. However, their second match at home against Zimbabwe ended in a 1-1 draw after they failed to maintain a slender lead.

Despite the minor ranking boost, Nigeria still faces a challenging path to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. They currently sit in third place in Group C, trailing behind first-placed South Africa by six points.

On the African continent, Nigeria now occupies the 6th position in the FIFA ranking. They are preceded by Ivory Coast (5th in Africa, 41st globally) and Algeria (4th in Africa, 36th globally). Leading the African nations is Morocco, who impressively hold the 12th spot globally. Senegal (19th in the world) and Egypt (32nd in the world) complete the top three in Africa.

At the pinnacle of the global rankings, Argentina continues to reign supreme, followed by Spain and France. England and Brazil round out the top five. The rest of the top ten features the Netherlands, Portugal, Belgium, Italy, and Germany.

This latest FIFA ranking reflects the continued competitive nature of international football, with slight shifts occurring based on recent match performances. For Nigeria, the focus will remain on improving their standing in the World Cup qualifiers to have a chance of making it to the global stage.
