The Presidency has dismissed claims of a rift between President Bola Tinubu and former President Muhammadu Buhari, asserting that their partnership remains robust and intact. This assertion comes amidst opposition attempts to exploit perceived tensions between the two leaders.

Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to President Tinubu on Media, Publicity, and Special Duties, in an article, emphasized the enduring nature of the relationship, describing it as a “cornerstone of Nigerian politics.” He highlighted the mutual respect, shared achievements, and acknowledged occasional challenges that have characterized their alliance.

“The special relationship between President Tinubu and former President Buhari has witnessed many remarkable moments. It has experienced dramatic and exciting times, just as there have been challenging moments,” Rahman stated, underscoring the resilience of their partnership.

Rahman recalled instances that demonstrated the strength of their bond, including Buhari’s invitation to Tinubu to join his delegation at the 2017 African Union-European Union Summit in Côte d’Ivoire. This invitation, he noted, symbolized a “rekindling of collaboration” after Tinubu had felt sidelined. During the visit, Buhari publicly acknowledged Tinubu’s contributions.

The presidential aide also highlighted Tinubu’s crucial role in Buhari’s 2015 presidential victory, following three previous unsuccessful attempts. He emphasized that the alliance between Buhari’s CPC and Tinubu’s ACN formed a “formidable coalition” that united key regions of Nigeria.

“Contrary to impressions in some quarters… there is nothing that suggests that Buhari has deviated from or dumped the accord between him and President Tinubu,” Rahman asserted. He pointed to Buhari’s recent reaffirmation of loyalty during a meeting with APC Governors in Kaduna, where he emphasized humility and citizen-first leadership.

The Presidency’s statement aims to dispel any notions of a fractured relationship, reinforcing the narrative of a strong and enduring partnership between Tinubu and Buhari.
