Key allies of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, gathered at his official residence in Abuja on Monday night for a closed-door meeting. The meeting comes amid renewed debate over Wike’s standing in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following his recent statements.

The meeting, which commenced around 8:40 p.m., quickly transitioned into a private session, with several top-ranking party members in attendance. Notable figures present included the National Secretary of the PDP, Sam Anyanwu; National Vice Chairman (South-South), Dan Orbih; and former governors Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State. Also present were former Senator George Sekibo and other zonal and state party chairmen, underscoring the significance of the gathering.

This development follows a recent clarification from the PDP on why Wike has not faced sanctions for alleged anti-party activities. The party’s Deputy National Legal Adviser, Barrister Okechukwu Osuoha, stated that no action can be taken without a formal petition supported by evidence. He explained that while the party has a disciplinary committee, no member has been punished because no official complaints have been filed. Osuoha specifically addressed the public’s curiosity about Wike, clarifying that a formal petition must be submitted before any disciplinary action can be initiated.
