The Detroit Pistons finally snapped their long-standing playoff losing streak in dramatic fashion on Monday night, securing a hard-fought 100-94 victory over the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden. The win evens their Eastern Conference first-round series at one game apiece and marks Detroit’s first playoff triumph since 2008.

Cade Cunningham led the charge for the resilient Pistons, delivering a stellar performance with 33 points and 12 rebounds. Veteran guard Dennis Schroder provided crucial support off the bench, scoring 20 points, including a clutch go-ahead three-pointer with just 55.7 seconds remaining that ultimately silenced a late Knicks rally.

The contest was a physical and fast-paced affair, a stark contrast to the Knicks’ dominant comeback victory in Game 1. Detroit had built a comfortable 15-point lead in the third quarter, but the Knicks clawed their way back, fueled by a determined fourth-quarter effort from star guard Jalen Brunson, who poured in 14 of his game-high 37 points in the final period.

The tension reached fever pitch in the final minutes. Brunson found Josh Hart for a dunk that tied the score at 94-94 with 1:15 left on the clock, threatening another Knicks comeback. However, Schroder responded instantly with his pivotal three-pointer, putting the Pistons back in the lead. The Knicks then faltered on three consecutive possessions, allowing Schroder and Jalen Duren (12 points, 13 rebounds) to ice the game from the free-throw line.

Tobias Harris also contributed significantly for Detroit with 15 points and 13 rebounds. For the Knicks, Mikal Bridges scored 19 points, while Karl-Anthony Towns and OG Anunoby were held to just 10 points each.

“We did what we were supposed to do. And that was it,†a composed Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff stated after the game. “To win a game on the road, to get home court was what we came here for. So we approached it with a business-like mentality, learned from the fourth quarter the other night. But we just did what we were supposed to do.â€

The series now shifts to Detroit, where the Pistons will host Game 3 on Thursday, carrying the momentum of their breakthrough victory and the roar of their home crowd.
