Today, June 19, marks World Sickle Cell Day, and Nigerian music star Adekunle Gold is using his platform in the most powerful way to give back.
The Afropop Superstar, who has openly shared his journey living with sickle cell disease, just launched “5 Star Care”, a groundbreaking program from the Adekunle Gold Foundation. Through this campaign, 1,000 people living with sickle cell in Lagos state will now receive access to free health insurance.
This initiative goes beyond the studio. Adekunle Gold is a sickle cell survivor, and his advocacy comes from a deeply personal place. Growing up with the condition, he understands the pain, the fear, and the quiet strength that warriors carry every day. With 5 Star Care, he’s reaching back to lift others, offering not just music that inspires, but solutions that heal.
Sickle cell warriors across Lagos are receiving more than just words of encouragement; they’re receiving real healthcare coverage. With 5 Star Care, Adekunle Gold is making it possible for many to access doctor visits, medications, and critical care without worrying about the cost. For a condition that often goes underserved, this kind of intervention is life-saving.
“I’m a living testimony,” AG once said. “If I can live my dreams and thrive with sickle cell, so can you.”
