The formal adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the official platform for the opposition coalition has reportedly caused significant disarray within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). This is according to Dr. Eze Emmanuel Eze, President of the Ebonyi State Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture, who lauded the move as both strategic and timely.

The coalition officially took over the ADC’s structure at an event held on Wednesday at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. Reacting to this development, Eze stated that the adoption has unsettled the APC, signaling an “imminent collapse” for the ruling party.

“The coalition has achieved one thing: the APC is now resorting to reactionary tactics. That, to me, is the beginning of the collapse of the house of cards that the APC actually represents,” Eze remarked. He further pointed to the sudden resignation of Abdullahi Ganduje as the APC National Chairman as an additional indication of internal turmoil within the party, suggesting that the APC lacks the capacity to withstand pressure from a united opposition.

Advice for President Tinubu

Dr. Eze also offered advice to President Bola Tinubu, suggesting a path to redeem himself in the eyes of Nigerians. He proposed that if Tinubu refrains from seeking re-election in 2027 and ensures the conduct of a credible, free, and fair poll, he could earn the forgiveness of the populace. “Tinubu should explore just one option. Let him focus on conducting a credible election without having himself on the ballot. That way, Nigerians will forgive him his shortcomings, because we are a truly religious nation,” he advised.

APC vs. Obidient Movement

Drawing a sharp contrast, Eze argued that unlike the “Obidient Movement,” the APC is merely a ‘special purpose vehicle’ designed solely for the acquisition of power, rather than dedicated service to the people. “For us in the Obidient Movement, we are focused on building a new Nigeria, where justice, peace, and progress moderate the distribution of national wealth and opportunities. In fact, for the Obidient Movement, an egalitarian society is all that matters,” he stated.

The Obidient supporter lamented the economic burdens imposed by the current administration, which he believes have propelled Nigerians into a state of heightened political awareness. “Hunger and bad governance have kept Nigerians wide awake. Everybody is now vigilant. Nobody will wait to go to court instead of coming out to vote and settle scores at the polling booths,” he declared.

Eze concluded by expressing confidence that with the emergence of the coalition, Nigerians now possess a credible alternative to challenge and unseat the APC. “It has now dawned on us all that no politician rigs, buys votes, or steals elections to serve the people. APC’s focus was and still remains power grab and ostentatious display,” he added.
