Harry Kane scored against his former club for the first time as Bayern Munich secured a dominant 4-0 pre-season victory over Tottenham Hotspur at home on Thursday. The match, a final tune-up for Bayern ahead of a key competitive fixture, saw Kane both find the net and miss from the penalty spot.

The England captain, who is Tottenham’s all-time top scorer with 280 goals, opened the scoring for Bayern after just 12 minutes with a composed finish inside the penalty box. Just two minutes later, he had an opportunity to double his tally when new Spurs loanee Joao Palhinha gave away a penalty against his parent club. However, Kane, slipping as he took the shot, blasted the ball well over the bar, marking his first failed spot-kick since his miss in the 2022 World Cup quarter-final against France.

Bayern’s control of the match continued in the second half. French international Kingsley Coman added the home side’s second goal on the hour mark with a superb curling shot from the edge of the box.

The rout was completed in the final stages by two of Bayern’s talented teenagers. Lennart Karl scored the third goal in the 74th minute, followed by Jonah Kusi-Asare, who also found the net with a fine curling effort with 10 minutes remaining.

The match served as Bayern’s final preparation before their UEFA Super Cup clash against European champions Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tottenham’s pre-season under new coach Thomas Frank has been mixed, with a mix of wins and draws, including a notable victory against rivals Arsenal. The defeat marks Frank’s first loss since his appointment as head coach.
