Goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma is reportedly set to move to Manchester City on transfer Deadline Day after the Premier League champions agreed a €35 million deal with Paris Saint-Germain. The 26-year-old Italian international has been seeking a new club since PSG deemed him surplus to requirements, a surprising turn of events considering his instrumental role in the French club’s Champions League victory last season.

Donnarumma’s departure from Paris follows PSG’s decision to sign 23-year-old Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier during the close season. Coach Luis Enrique has made it clear that Chevalier will be the number one choice for this season, a move that left Donnarumma with an uncertain future. Despite his key role in PSG’s recent success, the club has opted to go in a new direction, prompting the goalkeeper’s search for a new home.

At Manchester City, the move is particularly interesting given that the club’s regular number one, Ederson, remains on the squad. Prior reports suggested Donnarumma would not join City unless Ederson departed. However, it now appears an agreement has been reached for the Italian to move to the Etihad Stadium. City’s recent signing, James Trafford from Burnley, has started all three Premier League matches so far but has reportedly failed to convince the coaching staff, opening the door for Donnarumma’s arrival. This transfer adds a high-profile competitor to City’s goalkeeping ranks.
