Ajax have confirmed the transfer of striker Kasper Dolberg, who returns to the club on a four-year deal from Belgian side Anderlecht. The move, which cost the Amsterdam giants a fixed fee of €10 million with an additional €2 million in potential bonuses, brings the Danish international back to the club where he previously played 119 games.

The 27-year-old was reportedly also a target for Scottish club Celtic, with Dutch media claiming he had agreed to terms with the Scottish side. However, Dolberg opted to join Ajax once they came forward, stating he felt it was “time to come home.” He previously played for Ajax between 2015 and 2019, scoring 43 goals and helping the club reach the Europa League final in 2017.

According to technical director Alex Kroes, Dolberg’s return is a perfect fit for the squad. “Kasper is back on familiar ground. He knows Ajax, the club knows him and his qualities,” Kroes said on the club’s website. “As far as we are concerned, he fits perfectly into our current squad as a striker and makes us stronger and more versatile in the different competitions in which we compete. We are delighted that he has once again chosen Ajax.”

The transfer comes after Ajax sold two of their forwards, Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traore, to Premier League side Sunderland for a combined €22.5 million. The funds from those sales enabled Ajax to bring back their former star. Dolberg, who joined Anderlecht in 2023, scored 39 goals in 87 games for the Brussels side before making his return to the Netherlands.
