Borussia Dortmund continued their impressive unbeaten run, securing a comfortable 2-0 victory against a 10-man Heidenheim at the Voith-Arena. The win extends Dortmund’s unbeaten streak in the league to 11 matches (W9, D2), while Heidenheim remains the only Bundesliga team without a point this season.
Heidenheim’s hopes of getting their first points were severely impacted midway through the first half when forward Budu Zivzivadze was shown a red card for a studs-up challenge on Felix Nmecha. This left the home side at a numerical disadvantage for the rest of the game.
Dortmund quickly capitalized on the opportunity. Their in-form striker, Serhou Guirassy, scored his fourth league goal of the season with a powerful header from a perfect cross by Julian Ryerson. Guirassy has now found the net in eight consecutive Bundesliga games.
Dortmund doubled their lead just before halftime. Maximilian Beier calmly tapped the ball into the net after a great setup from Karim Adeyemi.
In the second half, Dortmund’s intensity noticeably dropped as they seemed to manage the game with an eye on their upcoming Champions League match against Juventus. Despite a strong shot from Heidenheim’s Arijon Ibrahimović that forced a save from Gregor Kobel, the visitors were in full control.
Although Dortmund had chances to add to the score, they couldn’t find a third goal. However, they celebrated a second consecutive clean sheet and another important win, leaving Heidenheim with a lot of work ahead.
