Newcastle United secured their first Premier League victory of the new season with a 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers at St. James’ Park. The result is a significant one for both teams: it snaps Newcastle’s five-match winless streak in the league and hands Wolves their fourth consecutive defeat, the worst start in their history.

Despite the final score, it was Wolves who started on the attack, with Rodrigo Gomes forcing a fine save from Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope just eight seconds into the game. However, Newcastle quickly took control. Wolves keeper Sam Johnstone kept his team in the game with a stunning point-blank save to deny Jacob Murphy a goal.

Newcastle’s pressure paid off in the 30th minute. On his debut, new signing Nick Woltemade rose highest at the back post to power home a header from an excellent cross by Murphy, giving the Magpies a deserved 1-0 lead.

The second half was a different story. The early momentum from Newcastle faded, and the match became a more cautious affair. While Wolves manager Vítor Pereira made three substitutions to try and change the game, his team’s attack seemed blunt without their star striker, Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Newcastle comfortably saw out the rest of the match, content to hold on to their one-goal advantage. The first-half goal from Woltemade was enough to secure the win and get their season on track. For Wolves, the outlook is bleaker as they remain the only Premier League side without a single point this season.
