The debutant artist tops the nominations list for Africa’s premiere music awards show ahead of his highly anticipated performance period.
Afro-R&B singer-songwriter Odunlami Afolarin Temiloluwa, known professionally as Fola, has made a landmark entry into the Nigerian music landscape by securing 10 nominations for the upcoming 18th Headies Awards. The announcement marks Fola’s first-ever appearance on the prestigious award nomination roster, positioning him as the most nominated artist of this year’s edition.
Fola’s widespread critical recognition follows the success of his debut album, Catharsis, which earned nods in top-tier categories including Album of the Year and Best R&B Album. In addition to his album’s success, Fola’s individual artistry earned him nominations for Next Rated, Best Male Artiste, and Digital Artiste of the Year.
The artist’s chart-topping single “You” added three major nods to his record-setting total: Afrobeats Single of the Year, Best Recording of the Year, and the fan-voted Headies Viewers’ Choice. Fola’s technical depth and collaborative versatility were also recognized with nominations for Songwriter of the Year for “Who Does That?” and Best Collaboration for “Lost,” featuring Kizz Daniel.
Building on the early momentum generated by his breakout single “Alone,” the release of Catharsis solidified Fola’s signature sound and expanded his reach globally. Securing 10 nominations as a first-time nominee places him at the forefront of the 18th edition’s roster, leading ahead of several established figures in African music.
