The Akwa Ibom State Government has refuted allegations that Governor Umo Eno reported his predecessor, former Governor Udom Emmanuel, to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The official denial follows claims made by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in the state, Senator John Udoedehe, during a briefing with online publishers. Udoedehe had alleged that Governor Eno supplied information to the anti-graft agency that prompted enforcement actions against Emmanuel’s residence in Victoria Island, Lagos.
State Commissioner for Information Aniekan Umanah formally rejected the claims in an official statement, describing the allegations as false, reckless, and entirely unsupported by evidence.
“The attention of the Akwa Ibom State Government has been drawn to a recent social media video in which Senator John James Akpanudoedehe made grave and completely unsubstantiated allegations against Governor Umo Eno and former Governor Udom Emmanuel,” Umanah stated. “The allegation is false, reckless and without foundation.”
The state government emphasized that Governor Eno has never petitioned the EFCC against any individual or past administration official. Addressing the continuity between administrations, the statement noted that Eno has maintained political harmony by retaining many officials from the previous cabinet while continuing and completing key infrastructure projects initiated under Emmanuel’s tenure.
The government urged the public to disregard the viral claims, cautioning against political rhetoric aimed at inciting public tension across the state.
