The Chief Of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has called on troops of the Nigerian Army to be more proactive in addressing the escalating security challenges facing the nation. He emphasized that overcoming insecurity is paramount for Nigeria to achieve its full developmental potential, reminding the soldiers that a significant responsibility and high expectations rest on their shoulders.

Speaking to troops of the 3 Division of the Nigerian Army in Rukuba, near Jos, on Tuesday, Lt-Gen. Oluyede highlighted the critical role of the military in ensuring the safety and progress of the country.

Nigerians are looking up to us to curb the current security challenges in the country. These challenges range from terrorism, kidnapping, and armed robbery, among others; this is why Nigerians are depending solely on us to make things better, the COAS stated.

He underscored the direct link between security and national development, asserting, If we dont curb these challenges, there can be no meaningful development in this country. If we tackle insecurity, the monies that government sink into the security sector will be channelled to providing infrastructure that will make life better for Nigerians.

General Oluyede expressed his appreciation for the troops’ ongoing efforts in tackling various security threats across the country, including in Plateau State and its surrounding areas. He, however, urged them to enhance their dedication and commitment to their constitutional duties of safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens.

Reassuring the soldiers of the Nigerian Army, the COAS affirmed that their welfare remains a top priority for his leadership. 1 Let me thank you for your efforts in safeguarding the people of Plateau and Nigerians in general. But I urge you to be more dutiful, dedicated, and committed to your constitutional duties of safeguarding lives and property. Im committed to making your lives better; your welfare and well-being are my priority. This is why Im going round to see things for myself, he concluded.
