Manchester City continued their strong start to the season with a convincing 2-0 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. Goals from Erling Haaland and Mateo Kovacic sealed the victory, marking a difficult debut for Chelsea’s new manager, Enzo Maresca.

City took control of the match early, with Haaland opening the scoring in the 18th minute. The Norwegian striker, making his 100th appearance, was clinical as ever, slotting home his 91st goal with an unorthodox assist from Bernardo Silva. This early lead set the tone for City’s dominance throughout the game.

Despite Chelsea’s efforts to find a foothold in the match, it was an underwhelming performance from the Blues, particularly from captain Enzo Fernandez. Fernandez struggled to influence the game and was outshone by City’s midfield, who controlled the tempo with ease.

Chelsea had their moments of frustration, particularly with several penalty appeals turned down by the referee, which only added to their woes. The Blues felt aggrieved, but their claims were dismissed, leaving them without a lifeline to get back into the match.

Rodri’s absence from the City lineup was hardly felt as his teammates stepped up to maintain their high standards. The game was put to bed in the 84th minute when former Chelsea man Mateo Kovacic dribbled past Fernandez and Moisés Caicedo to calmly slot the ball into the net, doubling City’s lead and silencing the Stamford Bridge crowd.

The match ended with Manchester City’s Haaland being named Man of the Match, a fitting accolade for the prolific striker who continues to break records with each passing game.

For Chelsea, the result was a harsh reality check for new manager Maresca. His side lacked the cohesion and intensity needed to challenge a team of City’s caliber. As the Blues regroup and look ahead to the next fixture, Maresca will need to address the gaps in his squad and find a way to inject more energy and creativity into their play.

Manchester City, on the other hand, march on, solidifying their position at the top of the table with another commanding performance. The reigning champions have once again shown why they are the team to beat this season.
