The Federal Government has announced plans to construct 100 housing units in each of the 774 local government areas across Nigeria, totaling 77,400 units, with a projected completion time of one year from the project’s launch.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa, revealed this ambitious plan during a meeting with a delegation from Creative Sphere Limited at the Ministrys headquarters in Mabushi. He emphasized that the project aligns with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring access to decent housing for all Nigerians.

The housing initiative will be funded through the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Development Fund (RHIDF), and each estate will be equipped with essential amenities, including recreational areas, a primary school, a police outpost, a clinic, and a shopping mall.

Regarding the allocation of the houses, Minister Dangiwa explained that 80% of the units will be sold to Nigerians residing in the respective local government areas who earn a living wage. A unique affordability model will be implemented, requiring interested individuals to contribute one-third of their monthly income towards the purchase.

“Anyone earning as low as N30,000 per month will be able to purchase a house, as they will only need to pay N10,000 monthly, which is one-third of their earnings. Similarly, someone earning N90,000 will pay N30,000,” he explained.

The remaining 20% of the housing units will be allocated free of charge to vulnerable citizens, including widows, orphans, and those identified as having low or no income. This initiative aims to provide shelter for some of the most disadvantaged members of society.
