Paul Ince, the former Manchester United and England midfielder, has been charged with drink-driving, Cheshire police confirmed on Monday.

The incident leading to the charge involved a black Range Rover that had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers responded to the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man, who has since been identified as Ince.

“Paul Ince, of Quarry Road, Neston, has since been charged with drink-driving,” read a statement released by the Cheshire police.

Ince, a prominent figure in English football, earned 53 caps for his country and was a key player for Manchester United during his six-year tenure, where he secured two Premier League titles.

Following his illustrious playing career, Ince transitioned into management, notably guiding Milton Keynes Dons to a League Two title in the 2007-08 season. His most recent managerial role was with Reading during the 2022-23 campaign.

Ince has been released on bail and is scheduled to appear in court on July 18. Reuters has reportedly reached out to Ince’s representatives for comment.
