Giorgio Armani, the legendary Italian fashion designer who transformed global style with his minimalist and elegant designs, has passed away at the age of 91. The news was confirmed by his company on Thursday.

In a statement, the Armani Group expressed its “infinite sorrow†at the loss of its “creator, founder, and tireless driving force.†The company added that Armani “passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loved ones†and remained dedicated to his craft until his final days. “Tireless, he worked until his final days, dedicating himself to the company, its collections, and the diverse and ever-evolving projects both existing and in progress,†the statement read.

Armani founded his namesake label in 1975, and his work quickly became synonymous with elegance and sophistication. His signature sleek and understated designs redefined Italian fashion on the world stage, and his empire grew to include fragrances, home interiors, and luxury accessories.

Over the decades, Armani’s creations were worn by Hollywood stars, world leaders, and athletes, cementing his legacy as a global icon. He was widely credited with introducing a new era of ready-to-wear clothing that combined comfort with high fashion. His death marks the end of an era in the fashion industry.
