Besiktas have officially unveiled Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi, with a transfer from Leicester City nearing completion. The 27-year-old defensive midfielder completed his medicals in Istanbul on Thursday, August 7, as the Turkish giants move to secure the Nigerian international for a reported €9.5 million.
The transfer negotiations were formally announced by the club in a disclosure to Turkey’s Public Disclosure Platform. “Negotiations have started with professional footballer Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi and his club Leicester City Football Club Limited regarding his transfer,” the statement read.
Ndidi spent seven years at Leicester City, where he became a key player after joining from Belgian side Genk in 2017. Despite playing a prominent role in the Foxes’ promotion back to the Premier League, speculation surrounded his future due to having only one year left on his contract. Besiktas, as part of their ambitious summer rebuild, have taken the lead in the race for his signature.
The transfer process included a comprehensive medical evaluation at Acıbadem Altunizade Hospital. A statement from Besiktas detailed the process: “Wilfred Onyinye Ndidi, with whom we have begun transfer negotiations, underwent a medical examination this morning… Ndidi underwent comprehensive blood tests and was examined in the orthopaedics, internal medicine, ophthalmology, ear-nose-throat (ENT), general surgery, and cardiology departments. His medical checks were completed with lung and endurance tests.”
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, all parties have agreed to the terms of the deal, which is valued at €9.5 million. If finalized, the move will mark Ndidi’s first venture into Turkish football and provide a fresh start after a long and demanding period in England
