The Northern Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has officially distanced itself from the upcoming nationwide protest movement tagged Take-It-Back, cautioning that such demonstrations could intensify national tensions and threaten the countrys fragile stability.

In a statement issued on Sunday from Kaduna, NYCN President Isah Abubakar voiced deep concern over the growing unrest across various regions and the sensitive socio-political climate in the country. While acknowledging the legitimate frustrations of many young Nigerians, the council emphasized that the present moment calls for caution, unity, and constructive dialoguenot mass street protests.

We understand the grievances motivating these calls to protest, Abubakar stated. However, he stressed the importance of learning from past experiencesmost notably the EndSARS demonstrations, which were initially peaceful but later devolved into chaos. The council pointed out that such movements are vulnerable to infiltration by criminal elements, often leading to violence, destruction of public property, and tragic loss of life.

We cannot afford a repeat of those dark days, Abubakar warned, underscoring the urgent need to prioritize peace and national cohesion.

Reaffirming its commitment to youth empowerment, the council pledged to continue collaborating with government bodies and key stakeholders to ensure that young voices are not only heard but also acted uponthrough legal, peaceful, and strategic avenues.

The NYCN urged Nigerian youths to focus on civic engagement and purposeful dialogue as tools for national transformation. Let us channel our energy into building a united, inclusive, and forward-looking Nigeria, the council stated.

In conclusion, the council appealed for calm, urging young Nigerians to avoid any form of violence and to place their trust in ongoing efforts to address the countrys challenges. Change takes time, patience, and persistence. True progress is achieved through peacenot chaos, the statement concluded.

With this stance, the Northern Youth Council of Nigeria continues to advocate for a stable and secure nation where the dreams and voices of young people can thrive through meaningful participation and peaceful engagement.
