The Oba of Benin, Oba Ewuare II, has gifted a royal plaque to afrobeats megastar, Rema.

The Oba presented the plaque to Rema on Thursday when the singer paid him a visit at his palace ahead of his homecoming concert at the Ogbe Stadium in Benin City.

Earlier, Rema joined the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday, for the groundbreaking ceremony of Edo Arena.

The governor announced that the 6,000-capacity arena would be called Rema Dome in honour of the singer.

Rema, born Divine Ikubor, is from Benin City and has been a proud ambassador of Edo State, promoting the state and legacy of the ancient Benin empire in his music and concerts.

His latest hit song, ‘Benin Boys,’ which featured fellow Edo-born star, Shallipopi, is a tribute to the city of Benin.

In the song, Rema mentioned that he deserved a medal from the Oba for promoting the kingdom.
