Peter Obi Voluntarily Released Anambra Handover Records, Will Not Hide From Questions, Says Yunusa Tanko
The National Coordinator of the Obidient Movement, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, has stated that Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate Peter Obi voluntarily made his administration’s financial records public and will not shy away from questions surrounding his tenure as Governor of Anambra State.
Speaking during an interview on ARISE Television, Tanko addressed ongoing controversies and allegations regarding external debt obligations, unpaid commitments, and liabilities allegedly inherited by subsequent state administrations following Obi’s handover to former Governor Willie Obiano.
Tanko emphasized that Obi acted out of a commitment to transparency and accountability, releasing his official handover note without external compulsion.
“Nobody asked His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi, to present facts about his handing over. He did willingly and openly to the people.”
Dismissing claims that Obi’s financial record was unverified or misleading, Tanko challenged critics to cross-check available banking documentation and public handover records instead of making unverified statements.
“The video is there. Anybody can see it. They confirmed that such amount of money is in their bank account. If anybody wants to contradict that, let them go to the bank. It is available.”
The reaction follows the publication of Obi’s 2014 handover document by his camp, which detailed local and foreign investments alongside certified bank balances. Tanko maintained that the records speak for themselves and urged other public officials who have governed the state to demonstrate similar openness by making their transition notes available for public scrutiny.
