Barcelona winger Raphinha revealed his unwavering belief that it was only a matter of time before the brilliance of teenage sensation Lamine Yamal would unlock their title-winning victory against Espanyol on Thursday. The Brazilian lauded the “golden feet” of the 17-year-old, whose stunning goal broke the deadlock and set Barca on their path to a 2-0 win, securing the 2024/25 LaLiga title.

Yamal’s moment of magic arrived early in the second half when he collected the ball on the right touchline, embarked on a mesmerizing lateral run across the edge of the penalty area, and then unleashed an exquisite curling strike that nestled into the top corner, leaving the Espanyol goalkeeper with no chance.

“We didn’t have many clear chances but we have a kid in there who sometimes pulls something out of the golden feet he has and he gave us peace of mind to stay in the game more calmly,” Raphinha said, acknowledging the pivotal moment created by the young winger.

Reflecting on the team’s journey, Raphinha recalled the doubts cast on their title aspirations earlier in the season. “In January some people were saying we would fight to be third. We have confidence in ourselves. That’s the key. We trust in the work and in what we know we can do,” he asserted.

Raphinha himself has enjoyed a stellar season, netting 18 league goals, including a crucial brace in the recent 4-3 El Clasico victory over Real Madrid. He was quick to credit the faith shown in him by coach Hansi Flick for his improved form.

“The most important thing was the confidence of the coach. Knowing at the start of the season that he was counting on me, a person who controls the team… it changes you in the end,” Raphinha explained, highlighting the impact of Flick’s trust.

The Brazilian has significantly improved his goal tally from the previous season and also boasts the third-highest number of assists in LaLiga with nine, just three behind his teammate and assists leader, Lamine Yamal. This testament to both players’ contributions underscores the exciting blend of experience and youthful brilliance that has propelled Barcelona to their 28th LaLiga title.
