Real Madrid are reportedly making a strong push to secure the early signing of Liverpool’s departing right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold, to ensure his availability for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup in June.

Alexander-Arnold, 26, recently announced his departure from his boyhood club, Liverpool, with his contract set to expire on June 30th. Real Madrid have emerged as the frontrunners for his signature, and with the Club World Cup commencing on June 15th, the Spanish giants are keen to integrate the England international into their squad as swiftly as possible.

The Club World Cup schedule sees Real Madrid begin their campaign in Miami against Al Hilal on June 18th. Sources indicate that discussions between the clubs are underway to facilitate an early release for Alexander-Arnold. Should Liverpool be unwilling to allow him to leave before his contract officially ends, there remains a possibility that the defender could join Real Madrid later in the tournament.

If the transfer is not finalized before the group stage, Alexander-Arnold would miss Real Madrid’s initial fixtures against Al Hilal (June 18th), Pachuca (June 22nd), and Salzburg (June 27th). However, FIFA regulations for the Club World Cup include a special player registration window from June 27th to July 3rd, potentially allowing Alexander-Arnold to be available for the knockout stages should Real Madrid progress.

Meanwhile, the potential arrival of Alexander-Arnold has cast further doubt on the future of Real Madrid’s current right-back, Lucas Vzquez. The 33-year-old’s contract also concludes at the end of the Club World Cup. According to football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, there have been no discussions regarding a contract extension for Vzquez, suggesting that the Spaniard could depart the Santiago Bernabu after the tournament. Romano emphasized that Alexander-Arnold’s anticipated move would directly impact Vzquez’s future with the club.

Real Madrid have reportedly already agreed to personal terms with Alexander-Arnold, who is said to be eager to embark on a new chapter in his career in the Spanish capital. This development signals a significant strategic move by Real Madrid as they aim to bolster their squad with a world-class talent for the newly expanded Club World Cup, which will be hosted in the United States from June 15th to July 13th, 2025. Real Madrid have been drawn in Group D alongside Al Hilal, Pachuca, and Salzburg.
