Sheffield United have completed the signing of experienced striker Danny Ings on a free transfer, a move that provides a much-needed boost to the club’s promotion aspirations. The 33-year-old, who was a free agent after his contract with West Ham United expired this summer, has penned a deal with the Blades.

The transfer comes at a crucial time for Sheffield United, who are currently under the management of Ruben Selles. Despite being tipped for an immediate return to the Premier League, the club has suffered a difficult start to the season, losing all four of their opening games. Supporters are hopeful that Ings’ proven goalscoring ability will ignite their campaign and turn their fortunes around.

Ings brings a wealth of experience from both the Premier League and the Championship. His last spell in the second tier was with Burnley during the 2013/14 season, where he netted an impressive 21 goals, earning him the Championship Player of the Year award and helping the Clarets achieve promotion.

Upon signing, Ings expressed his excitement about the move. “I am delighted,” he said. “It has been a busy few days. When I spoke to the manager and he asked me to come up and spend some time with him and the group, I just thought it was a great opportunity. To be sat here now speaking to you, and the Sheffield United fans, is just fantastic.”

The forward added that he was convinced by the vision presented by the club’s management. “As soon as I spoke to the manager, I wanted to get up here and sit down face-to-face and meet everybody here. To be sat here now and signed, it is really exciting. I’ve been keeping myself fit, and I’ve just been waiting for the right opportunity. I thought this was a great one for me and a chance to progress my career as well.”

The club and its fans will be hoping that Ings can recapture his prolific Championship form and help the team climb out of the relegation zone and back into the promotion hunt. His arrival provides a much-needed morale boost and adds a potent attacking threat to Ruben Selles’ squad.
