The Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) has set aside ₦25 billion to enhance security infrastructure across Nigeria’s tertiary institutions. The announcement was made by the Chairman of TETFund’s Governing Board, Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari, during a press briefing on the agency’s 2025 intervention projects.

Masari stated that the funds will be used to install streetlights and other security-enhancing facilities to protect students, staff, and institutional assets. “This intervention is to ensure that our campuses are safe and conducive for learning,” he said, adding that institutions will use the funds for projects that directly address security challenges.

In a separate initiative, Masari revealed that TETFund has disbursed over ₦100 billion to selected institutions to expand their capacity in medical sciences. This effort aims to address the nationwide shortage of healthcare professionals. Three institutions from each of Nigeria’s geopolitical zones have each received ₦4 billion to improve their infrastructure and programmes in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and other allied health disciplines.

These interventions were made possible by TETFund’s record ₦1.6 trillion revenue in 2025, generated from a 3 per cent education tax on company profits. From this amount, Masari provided a further breakdown of allocations:

₦460 billion has been allocated to various projects in universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education.

₦225 billion was disbursed to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) to support the federal student loan scheme.

₦70 billion has been earmarked for institutions to develop solar or gas-powered energy systems to ensure uninterrupted electricity for teaching and research.

Masari also assured the public that the agency has a strong monitoring and evaluation framework, including the use of consultants, to ensure the funds are used strictly for approved projects.
