Portuguese second-tier outfit S.C.U. Torreense made European football history by becoming the first non-top-flight club to win a match in the modern league-phase format of the UEFA Europa League, defeating Norwegian side Lillestrøm SK 2-1 at the Åråsen Stadion.

Despite playing at home, Lillestrøm struggled to translate early possession into clear-cut opportunities. Torreense threat on the counter-attack produced the opening goal in the 23rd minute. Full-back David Bruno found space down the right wing and floated a precise cross into the box for Alex Alfaro, who headed past Pontus Dahlberg to stun the home crowd.

Torreense extended their advantage shortly after the interval. In the 49th minute, Manu Pozo received a deep delivery from the left flank, controlled the ball cleanly, and smashed a powerful finish into the near post to double the visitors’ lead.

Lillestrøm manager Hans Erik Ødegaard introduced a triple substitution after the hour mark to salvage the match. The tactical adjustments bore fruit in the 79th minute when Felix Vá turned a cross back into the danger area for Thomas Lehne Olsen to tap in from close range.

The Norwegian hosts were handed a numerical advantage in the 85th minute after substitute Nuha Jatta was sent off for receiving a second yellow card. However, Torreense withstood a late siege to claim three points on their debut in the competition.
