On April 30, 2024, 14-year-old Nigerian schoolboy Daniel Anjorin was tragically killed in Hainault, northeast London, during a violent rampage that shocked the community. The accused, 37-year-old Spanish-Brazilian national Marcus Arduini Monzo, is set to stand trial at the Old Bailey on June 3, 2025, facing multiple serious charges related to the incident.

According to reports, the attack began when Monzo crashed a van into a fence on Laing Close, striking a pedestrian. He then allegedly exited the vehicle and attacked several individuals with two Japanese-style swordsa katana and a tanto katana. Among the victims was Daniel Anjorin, who was on his way to school when he was fatally stabbed in the chest and neck. Despite efforts to save him, Daniel succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

In addition to Daniel, four other individuals were injured during the 20-minute assault, including two Metropolitan Police officers. One of the victims, Henry De Los Rios Polania, an IT engineer from Hainault, was praised for protecting his family during the attack. He later expressed gratitude to the emergency services and shared his recovery journey on social media.

Monzo has been charged with ten offenses, including the murder of Daniel Anjorin, four counts of attempted murder, wounding with intent, aggravated burglary, and possession of bladed articles. At a hearing at the Old Bailey, he pleaded not guilty to all charges except for two counts of possessing offensive weaponsthe katana and the tanto katana swords. He remains in custody awaiting trial, which is scheduled to commence on June 3, 2025.

Daniels family described him as a beloved son and precious brother, expressing profound grief over his sudden loss. The incident has sparked discussions about public safety and the need for effective measures to prevent such tragedies. As the trial approaches, the community continues to mourn Daniels death and seeks justice for the victims of the attack.

The upcoming trial is expected to shed light on the circumstances surrounding the incident and provide an opportunity for the affected families to find some closure. It also serves as a somber reminder of the importance of addressing issues related to mental health, weapon possession, and community safety.
