The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the Warri-Itakpe Train Service (WITS) will officially resume operations on Wednesday, April 30, 2025. The service was temporarily suspended on April 10 due to several technical issues, most notably multiple engine failures.

In a recently released statement, Callistus Unyimadu, the Acting Deputy Director of Public Relations at NRC, stated that their engineering team has worked tirelessly to resolve the problems, boost operational efficiency, and improve overall service quality.

The NRC’s managing director and CEO, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, expressed deep regret over the inconvenience caused to passengers and stakeholders during the suspension. He emphasised that NRC engineers have diligently addressed the faults and implemented measures to ensure smoother service delivery going forward.

Beginning May 1, the Warri-Itakpe train will operate six days a week from Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Sunday. Thursdays will be reserved for scheduled maintenance of the tracks and trains to ensure safety and reliability.

The corporation also confirmed that all passengers who requested refunds during the suspension have been fully reimbursed. Those who chose to retain their bookings can now revalidate their tickets for any preferred travel day using NRC’s electronic ticketing platform.

For customer assistance or ticket-related inquiries, NRC has urged passengers to contact their official ticketing line. The NRC extended its gratitude to the public for their patience, support, and cooperation, and reassured passengers of more efficient and dependable train services as operations resume.
