West Ham Ease Past Struggling Leicester in 2-0 Victory

West Ham United delivered a commanding 2-0 win over a lackluster Leicester City at the London Stadium, piling further misery on Foxes boss Ruud van Nistelrooy. The victory, powered by goals from Tom Sou?ek and an own goal credited to Jarrod Bowens pressure, marked the Hammers first league triumph over Leicester since August 2021 and handed the visitors their 11th defeat in 12 Premier League outings.

The hosts wasted little time exploiting Leicesters fragile backline, which arrived with the second-worst defensive record in the division. On his birthday, Sou?ek broke the deadlock in the 21st minute. Mohammed Kudus, kept onside by a dawdling Jannik Vestergaard, forced a sharp save from Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, only for Sou?ek to pounce on the rebound and tap in from close range.

Leicester, passive and uninspired, offered little resistance as West Ham controlled proceedings with ease. The Hammers doubled their lead just before halftime through a stroke of fortune. Bowen, latching onto a near-post corner, fired a shot from a tight angle that took a decisive deflection off Vestergaard, wrong-footing Hermansen and nestling into the net. The own goal left Van Nistelrooy facing a daunting halftime team talk as the travelling fans voiced their frustration.

Despite the dire situation, the Leicester manager stuck with his starting XI at the break, delaying substitutions until the 61st minute when Harry Winks and Stephy Mavididi were introduced. The changes injected some life into the Foxes, with Vestergaard nearly redeeming himself with a powerful header from a corner. However, West Ham goalkeeper Alphonse Areola was unfazed, comfortably collecting the effort in what proved a quiet night for the Frenchman.

West Ham, under Graham Potters stewardship, saw out the game with composure, securing consecutive clean sheets and back-to-back league wins for the first time since March. The result lifts the Hammers to 15th in the table, while Leicester remain five points from safety, their relegation fears intensifying with each passing week.

For Van Nistelrooy, the pressure is mounting as his sides alarming slump shows no signs of abating. Leicesters next move will be critical, but on this evidence, a turnaround feels a long way off. Meanwhile, West Ham will savor a straightforward victory that showcased their growing resilience under Potters guidance.
